Exerts of 2004 Oregon Strugeon Regulations and Changes

Willamette Zone
From the mouth of the Willamette River, including Multnomah Channel, upstream to Willamette Falls:
From Sunday, Feb. 1, through Saturday, July 31, and Friday, Oct. 1, through
Friday, Dec. 31, the retention of legal size sturgeon is allowed Thursdays,
Fridays and Saturdays and prohibited Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Retained sturgeon must be between 42 and 60 inches in length. The retention of
sturgeon is prohibited seven days a week Sunday, Aug. 1, through Thursday, Sept.
30. Catch and release of sturgeon may continue during retention closures.
Columbia River mouth upstream to Wauna powerlines:
In the mainstem Columbia River from Wauna powerlines (river mile 40) downstream to the mouth at Buoy 10, including Youngs Bay and all adjacent Washington tributaries:
- Sturgeon retention is allowed seven days a week Jan 1 - April 30, 2004, and May 15-July 23.
- During the May 15-July 23 retention season, the minimum size limit increases from 42" to 45."
- Sturgeon retention is prohibited seven days a week May 1-May 14, and July 24-Dec. 31, 2004.
- Catch and release of sturgeon may continue during retention closures.
- Harvest guideline is 19,200 for sport anglers in 2004.
Wauna powerlines upstream to Bonneville Dam:
In the mainstem Columbia River from Wauna powerlines (river mile 40) upstream to Bonneville Dam, all adjacent Washington tributaries, and the Willamette River downstream of Willamette Falls (including Multnomah Channel):
- Sturgeon retention is allowed three days a week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) Feb. 1-July 31, and Oct. 1- Dec. 31, 2004 . Sturgeon retention is prohibited the rest of the week during this period.
- Effective May 1 - July 31, 2004, both boat and bank angling from Beacon Rock upstream to Bonneville Dam is prohibited. Catch and release angling is prohibited.
- Sturgeon retention is prohibited seven days a week Aug. 1- Sept. 30, 2004.
- Catch and release of sturgeon may continue during retention closures, except during the May 1 - July 31 closure from Beacon Rock upstream to Bonneville Dam when catch and release sturgeon fishing is prohibited.
- Harvest guideline is 12,800 sturgeon for sport anglers in 2004. Retention seasons are expectations based on current modeling. Catches will be tracked in-season and reviewed in July. Modifications will be made if necessary to remain within catch guidelines.

Bonneville Dam upstream to The Dalles Dam: The Bonneville Pool is currently open to the retention of sturgeon. The daily bag limit is one fish 42-60 inches in total length. The annual catch guideline for the Bonneville Pool is 700 white sturgeon.
The Dalles Dam upstream to McNary Dam: The Dalles Pool and the John Day Pool are currently open to the retention of sturgeon. The daily bag limit is one fish 48-60 inches in total length. The annual catch guidelines for The Dalles and John Day pools are 400 and 165 white sturgeon, respectively.
